In the vibrant climate of the mid-'90s, Sonic Youth was riding high on the waves of their acclaimed album "Goo," which dropped in 1990, and its follow-up, "Dirty," released in 1992. By the time of this live recording of "Panty Lies" on November 5, 1995, at the Roseland Theater in Portland, the band had already unleashed "Wash Your Hair" and had wrapped up working on their 1995 release, "Experimental Jet Set, Trash and No Star."
