In March 1975, The Doobie Brothers were riding high on the success of their album 'What Were Once Vices Are Now Habits,' which had come out a year earlier. This album was a pivotal moment in their career, featuring the hit single 'Black Water,' which would go on to reach the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100. Interestingly, 'Black Water' was initially a B-side to 'Another Park, Another Sunday,' but its popularity skyrocketed after its re-release as an A-side in October 1974. Pat Simmons, the song's writer, not only penned those haunting lyrics but also took the lead vocal, adding a personal touch to its soulful sound.
