On September 17, 1967, The Doors graced the stage of The Ed Sullivan Show for their first performance on the iconic program, right after the release of their groundbreaking self-titled debut album, which had hit the shelves just a few months earlier in January. This album introduced the world to their unique sound, largely shaped by Jim Morrison's provocative lyrics and Ray Manzarek's captivating keyboard work. Interestingly, during this live appearance, the band was instructed to alter the lyrics of 'Light My Fire' to avoid controversial content. However, they chose to perform 'People Are Strange,' a track from their second album, 'Strange Days,' which had just dropped a few weeks prior. This moment marked a pivotal point in their career, as it drew significant attention to their music and fiery stage presence, setting the stage for their lasting legacy in rock history.
