Neutral Milk Hotel

On May 6, 1997, Neutral Milk Hotel played a pivotal show at Barristers in Memphis, marking the last date of the Olivia Tremor Control tour. By this stage, they had just released their critically acclaimed album, 'On Avery Island' (1996), which showcased a distinctive lo-fi sound mixed with deeply introspective lyrics and eclectic instrumentation. Surprisingly, the live performance included a debut of 'Oh Comely,' a song that would later become a fan favorite on the seminal follow-up album, 'In the Aeroplane Over the Sea.' It's interesting to note that only two band members remained at this performance, a sign of the collective's evolution and a transition in their lineup.
