Violent Femmes

By June 2016, Violent Femmes were enjoying a revival in popularity following their self-titled debut album's initial release in 1983, and the subsequent release of several albums throughout the decades. Prior to the live recording of "Gone Daddy Gone" at WXPN Performance Studios, the band released their album *We Can Do Anything* in 2016, marking their first studio album in over 15 years. This period was significant for the band as they were reconnecting with their fanbase and reigniting their musical presence. The performance being recorded live for World Cafe highlighted their enduring appeal and ability to resonate with audiences, showcasing both nostalgia and a fresh sound. The session not only featured this iconic track but also reaffirmed the band's status in the alternative rock scene, as they continued to draw from their punk-folk roots while evolving their sound.
