Billy Joel

In 2000, Billy Joel was riding high on years of success, having just released his album 'Greatest Hits Volume III' a couple of years earlier. This collection, which came out in 1997, highlighted some of his later hits and showcased his evolution as an artist. By the time he performed the national anthem at the World Series on October 21, 2000, he was already a household name, known for his iconic storytelling and emotive melodies. Interestingly, this performance came just after a significant period of his career where he had been balancing live performances with his music production. Not only did he knock it out of the park with this iconic anthem, but he also cemented his status as a cultural figure beyond just music, as he had previously also performed at the Super Bowl and other major events.
