King Crimson

In June 2017, when King Crimson performed "Cirkus" at the Chicago Theatre, they were riding the wave of their celebrated revival that had started in the 2010s. Just a few years prior, in 2014, they released “Radical Action to Unseat the Hold of Monkey Mind,” which was quite a marvelous blend of old and new material, showcasing their unique ability to reinvent themselves while staying true to their progressive roots. This live performance exemplified the band’s remarkable cohesion and musical prowess, which has evolved through numerous lineup changes over the decades. Interestingly, during this period, they highlighted the contributions of Mel Collins, whose saxophone work adds that distinct flavor King Crimson is known for. So, watching them live in Chicago wasn’t just witnessing a concert; it was experiencing a dynamic chapter of musical history, rife with improvisation and the ever-elusive essence of what makes King Crimson truly iconic.
