Widespread Panic - 'Postcard' Live at Georgia Theatre, Athens, GA

Venue: Georgia Theatre Location: Athens, Georgia, United States Date: December 31, 1993

On December 31, 1993, Widespread Panic performed a legendary New Year’s Eve show at the Georgia Theatre in Athens, Georgia, which has since become a cherished part of their live music legacy. This performance came shortly after the release of their album "Everyday," which dropped earlier that same year, showcasing a shift towards a more polished sound yet retaining their raw energy and improvisational style. At this point in their career, the band was hot off their 1992 album "Angels on High" and burgeoning into a national live music scene. They were rapidly building a formidable fan base, particularly in the Southeastern U.S., blending Southern rock, blues, and funk in ways that made their live shows electrifying experiences. It’s interesting to note that the Georgia Theatre, a pivotal venue for the band, became a second home of sorts, and this particular show was also a heartfelt tribute to their late guitarist, Michael Houser, whose influence continues to loom large in their performances even today.
