Widespread Panic - The Waker Live at Red Rocks Concert
In June 2002, when Widespread Panic took the stage at the iconic Red Rocks Amphitheatre, they were riding high from their previous studio album, "Walkin' the Gargoyle," released in 2000. This album marked a significant period for the band, showcasing their growth and willingness to experiment with sound. Fans were already buzzing about the depth of their live performances, and this concert was no exception. Interestingly, it was also a poignant time as it marked one of the last major performances featuring guitarist Michael Houser before his battle with cancer. His soulful playing and stage presence were pivotal to Widespread Panic's identity at that time, and "The Waker," the song featured in that live recording, beautifully encapsulates the band’s blend of rock, blues, and Southern jam influences. The energy of that memorable night at Red Rocks continues to resonate with audiences, reaffirming their status as legends of the jam band scene.
