Vampire Weekend

In March 2016, Chris Baio, known as the bassist for Vampire Weekend, showcased his solo work at Stubb's during SXSW, presenting "Sister of Pearl." At this point, Vampire Weekend had just released their third album, "Modern Vampires of the City," in 2013, which was met with critical acclaim and a Grammy win. It marked a significant evolution in their sound, blending richer instrumentation with introspective lyrics. Interestingly, Baio's venture into solo performances like this one highlighted his creative range away from the band, as he explored a more personal and melodic approach. This performance came just on the cusp of Vampire Weekend's anticipated fourth album, which would eventually be released in 2019, keeping the buzz around the band alive during their hiatus.
