In March 2001, when Camel performed "Watching the Bobbins" live at Teatro Topazio in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, the band was navigating an engaging yet somewhat transitional phase in their career. Just prior to this performance, in 1999, they had released "Rajaz," an album that showcased their characteristic progressive rock sound blended with Middle Eastern influences— a nod to their knack for cultural fusions that make their music so evocative. By the time of the 2001 live recording, Camel had reformed after some years of relative inactivity, with fans buzzing about the return of original member Andy Latimer alongside Colin Bass, Guy LeBlanc, and Denis Clement. This lineup brought fresh energy and a renewed spirit, allowing them to reinterpret classic hits while exploring newer material. An interesting tidbit: this tour spurred a revival in their fan base, proving that even after years, Camel could still create a palpable connection.
