The Smashing Pumpkins

In January 1993, The Smashing Pumpkins were riding the wave of emerging fame following the release of their debut album, "Gish," which came out in May 1991. By the time of this live performance at Tower Records, they had begun solidifying their presence in the alternative rock scene. "Gish" showcased the band’s unique blend of heavy guitar riffs and melodic elements, setting the stage for their follow-up, "Siamese Dream," which would be released later that year in July 1993. The live recording of "Mayonaise," a track featured on "Siamese Dream," captures the band's raw energy and the dynamic guitar work that became a hallmark of their style. This performance exemplifies the band's transition from the underground scene to mainstream recognition, all while being known for their ambitious sound and complex arrangements. Interestingly, "Mayonaise" would go on to become a fan favorite, further cementing the band's legacy in the alternative rock genre.
