The Flaming Lips

In December 1988, when The Flaming Lips performed live at Kultur-Basar in Hanau, Germany, they were on the cusp of a pivotal moment in their career. Just a few months earlier, they had released their third studio album, *Solarinq*: an experiment that ventured into various styles, blending alternative rock with a touch of psychedelia that was typical of their sound. This particular live recording showcases the band's raw energy during a time when they were beginning to carve out their unique identity in the burgeoning alternative scene of the late '80s. Interestingly, this concert included rare performances of The Beatles' songs, "Everybody's Got Something to Hide Except Me and My Monkey" and "A Day in the Life," within a medley titled "Scratchin' the Door." Such choices reflected the band's eclectic influences and their willingness to push boundaries, which would later define their artistic evolution.
