Back in 1994, The Flaming Lips were riding high on the wave of their unique sound and burgeoning popularity. Just before that live performance of "Divine Hammer" at the Sooner Theatre, they'd released *Transmissions from the Satellite Heart* in 1993. This album is a gem, showcasing their signature blend of psychedelic rock and experimental sounds, and it features the iconic track “She Don’t Use Jelly.” By the time they took the stage in Norman, they were beginning to explore the boundaries of alternative music, setting the stage for their later works that delved even deeper into surrealism and eclecticism. Interestingly, this live performance is particularly rare, as it's one of only two known instances where The Flaming Lips tackled a Breeders song. It’s a snapshot of a band on the brink of evolution, blending their sound with a nod to their peers while captivating their dedicated fanbase right at home in Oklahoma. It’s moments like these that remind us of the special connections forged through live music.
