In February 1987, when Metallica rocked the stage at Frölundaborg in Gothenburg, Sweden, they were on the relentless "Damage, Inc." tour following the release of their critically acclaimed album, "Master of Puppets." This album, which had come out just a year prior, took the metal world by storm, showcasing the band’s intricate songwriting and powerful instrumentation. It’s worth noting that "Master of Puppets" was their first album to be certified Gold in the U.S., a defining moment that marked their ascent in the heavy metal hierarchy. The Gothenburg performance was especially significant—by that point, they were starting to cement their reputation as live performers, setting the stage for their future iconic status. Interestingly, this was one of the last tours featuring bassist Cliff Burton, who tragically passed away later that year. His influence loomed large even during this energetic performance, reminding audiences of the band’s emotionally charged and chaotic spirit.
