In December 2011, Metallica played a memorable show at The Fillmore in San Francisco, where they performed "Phantom Lord" with former guitarist Dave Mustaine. This performance was part of a special four-night event to celebrate the band's 30th anniversary and was a nod to their roots, with "Phantom Lord" being a track from their debut album, "Kill 'Em All," released in 1983. At this point in their career, Metallica had just released their 9th studio album, "Death Magnetic," in 2008, which had revitalized their thrash metal sound and garnered a lot of positive reception. What's intriguing is that this live performance marked a rare reunion with Mustaine, who had a significant impact on the band's early days before going on to form Megadeth. The blend of nostalgia, the raw energy of live performance, and the reunion with Mustaine created a special atmosphere that few Metallica shows can replicate. It really was a moment that underscored both the band’s enduring legacy and their deep connections to their past.
