In the summer of 1992, Blur was riding the wave of their self-titled debut album, released the previous year, which had begun to gain attention in the UK music scene. By the time they played at the Glastonbury Festival on June 27, 1992, they were still solidifying their reputation within the Britpop movement that would later define a musical era. The performance of “Never Clever” showcased their evolving sound, blending catchy hooks with witty lyrics, which were becoming their trademark. Interestingly, this gig came just before their major breakthrough with the album “Modern Life Is Rubbish,” released in 1993, which would further propel them into the spotlight. This early live recording captures a raw energy, a snapshot of a band on the cusp of greater success yet still reveling in their artistic beginnings. The Glastonbury crowd would soon come to know and love their unique blend of alternative rock, setting the stage for Blur's bright, albeit sometimes tumultuous, future.
