By the time of their performance at the Pinkpop Festival on May 23, 1988, in Landgraaf, Netherlands, the band was known for their high-energy stage presence and eclectic performances. This particular gig fell right before they began to work on the game-changing album *Mother's Milk*, which would elevate their popularity even further. Interestingly, it was during this era that their lineup solidified, with guitarist John Frusciante joining the band, setting the stage for a new creative direction that would reshape their musical landscape in the years to come.
