In May 1989, when the Pixies graced the stage at the Rodon Club in Athens, they were right in the thick of their rise to fame, following the release of their groundbreaking album *Doolittle*. Released in April of that same year, *Doolittle* marked a pivotal moment in their career, featuring iconic tracks like "Debaser" and "Monkey Gone to Heaven." The live performance captured in this recording showcases the band’s raw energy and eclectic sound, which was pivotal in shaping the alternative rock scene of the late '80s and beyond. Interestingly, *Doolittle* was recorded with a sense of experimentation; frontman Black Francis's quirky lyrics and the band’s atypical blend of punk and pop created a sound that was uniquely their own. This was a time when they were gaining an ardent following, and this show in Greece reflects not only their increasing popularity but also their deep connection with an international audience that was beginning to appreciate their distinct style.
