On August 4, 2016, Warpaint performed a live recording of a "New Song" at WFUV Studio A, showcasing their evolving sound during a pivotal period in their career. This performance occurred shortly after the release of their highly anticipated third studio album, *Heads Up*, which came out in September 2016. This album marked a shift for the band, incorporating more upbeat and experimental elements compared to their earlier, more melodic work. Notably, at this time, the band was comprised of four members: Emily Kokal, Theresa Wayman, Jenny Lee Lindberg, and Stella Mozgawa, who had developed a tighter musical chemistry through extensive touring. The live setting allowed them to connect with their audience, emphasizing the dynamic energy of their new material, signaling their growth and willingness to explore new sonic territories. Additionally, this performance highlighted the band's commitment to live music as a core aspect of their artistic identity.
