In May 2017, MGMT made waves with their live debut of "James" at the Beale Street Music Festival in Memphis. This performance came shortly after the band had wrapped up work on their third studio album, "Little Dark Age," slated for a 2018 release. Interestingly, the song "James" would later appear on that album, showcasing their evolution since their debut hit "Oracular Spectacular." By this time, MGMT had transitioned from their early, more psychedelic sound to explore deeper themes and a more polished feel.
