At the time of this live recording on December 10, 2015, Deerhunter had recently released their album "Fading Frontier" just a few months prior, in October 2015. This album marked a notable shift in their sound, incorporating a more experimental and melodic approach while still retaining their signature dream pop essence. Performing "Florescent Grey"—a fan favorite from their earlier album "Microcastle"—at The Royale in Boston allowed them to showcase both their established catalog and the new direction they were exploring. Interestingly, Deerhunter is known for their energetic and often unpredictable live shows, with frontman Bradford Cox often engaging in spontaneous banter with the audience. This performance had that raw energy, highlighting not just their musical evolution but the deep connection they maintain with their fans.
