In January 2017, Grizzly Bear performed "Losing All Sense" live in The Current studio, coinciding with the release of their fourth studio album, "Painted Ruins." This album marked a significant moment in the band's career as it was their first release in five years, following 2012's "Shields." The long gap was attributed to members pursuing solo projects, such as Ed Droste's work with "Find Me a Forest" and Chris Taylor's solo output, which allowed the band to evolve and refine their sound. "Painted Ruins" demonstrated a mature blend of intricate melodies and lush instrumentation, showcasing Grizzly Bear’s signature style while also exploring new musical territories. The live recording highlights the band’s experimental approach and their ability to recreate studio complexity in a live setting, reaffirming their reputation as a dynamic live act.
