In June 2018, Stephen Malkmus performed "Shady Lane," a beloved Pavement song, live at Cat's Cradle, bringing a wave of nostalgia to fans who cherished the band's unique sound. This performance came during a time when Malkmus had been exploring solo endeavors and collaborating with his band, The Jicks, following Pavement's dissolution in 1999. Before this recording, Pavement released their fifth and final studio album, 'Terror Twilight,' in 1999, which showcased their increasingly diverse sound and lyrical depth. Interestingly, Malkmus's ability to infuse fresh life into Pavement's classics highlights how the band's influence has lingered well beyond its active years. Playing alongside Steve West and the band The Lithics, this show not only reconnected Malkmus with his roots but also illustrated the enduring impact of Pavement's music.
