On October 30, 2020, Phish members Trey Anastasio and Page McConnell performed “Waste” during a special streaming event from The Barn in Vermont. At this point in their career, Phish was in a unique situation due to the COVID-19 pandemic, having suspended their touring schedule since 2020. Prior to this live performance, their last studio album, "Sigma Oasis," was released in April 2020, marking their initial new studio material in several years. This performance not only showcased their musical talents but also served a charitable purpose, as donations were made to the Divided Sky Fund, supporting mental health initiatives. The choice of "Waste," a poignant ballad from their 1996 album "Billy Breathes," underscores the band's ability to create moments of reflection and connection, even in challenging times.
