By the time they performed "Jesus Christ Pose" at Hard Rock Calling in London on June 24, 2012, the band had recently released the album “King Animal” in 2012, their first studio album in over 15 years. This live show perfectly encapsulated a moment of resurgence for the band, as they’d reunited in 2010 after a lengthy hiatus. It’s fascinating to think about how the energy of the crowd, filled with longtime fans—now moving into their middle age—still held the same passion for the grunge legends. Not only were they reviving their iconic sound, but they were also sharing the stage with The Stooges, whose influence on them is well-documented. Kim Thayil’s admiration for Ron Asheton adds another layer of connection between past and present.
