Interpol

In September 2002, when Interpol performed "Obstacle 1" live at Rocket Bar in Saint Louis, they were riding high on the success of their debut studio album, *Turn on the Bright Lights*, which had been released just a year prior, in August 2002. This album was pivotal in establishing the band's reputation within the post-punk revival movement and garnered substantial critical acclaim, particularly for its atmospheric sound and introspective lyrics. By the time of this live recording, Interpol was rapidly gaining a dedicated fanbase and was known for their distinctive sound characterized by taut guitar riffs and brooding vocals. The performance at the Rocket Bar showcases the band in the early stages of their career, capturing the raw energy and intensity that would define their early live shows, setting the stage for their future growth and the subsequent release of their sophomore album, *Antics*, in 2004.
