The Black Keys

In November 2007, The Black Keys were on the cusp of wider recognition, having just released their fifth studio album, “Magic Potion,” in September of that year. This live performance on KCRW, captured shortly after the album's release, showcases their raw energy and musicianship as they honed their sound in the blues-rock genre. At this time, the band was still largely operating within the indie scene but began attracting critical attention, paving the way for their upcoming album, “Attack & Release,” which would drop in April 2008. This subsequent release marked a significant turning point, as it introduced elements of experimentation and production collaboration with Danger Mouse, further broadening their appeal. The KCRW performance reflects their gritty, roots-oriented style that characterized their earlier works, while also hinting at the artistic evolution that was on the horizon.
